Welcome to Bipolarzilla: Mental Health Blog

Updated: Sep 17, 2021

Hello, beautiful people! Welcome to Bipolarzilla, a blog dedicated to educating people about and raising awareness for mental health. Keep reading to find out more information about the blog, as well as get to know me!

A Little Bit About Me

My name is Michele and I am a 20-year-old college dropout who majored in Clinical Psychology at The University of Central Florida for 2 years, then gave up, despite having straight A's. I'm originally from Long Island, New York, but I moved down to Florida when I was still a baby. Even though I grew up in Florida, my Long Island accent is still pretty strong, and almost everyone I speak to comments on it. I'm also Italian so I make a lot of unnecessary hand gestures.

Psychology and mental health are two things that I have always been extremely passionate about and have been a huge part of my life. Personally, I've been struggling with my mental health for over a decade now. I have been diagnosed with Bipolar I disorder, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and anorexia nervosa, and I am also a suicide and multiple-time sexual assault survivor. Basically, what I'm saying is, I'm a complete mess with a whole lotta baggage.

Me, sitting on the railing of the Brooklyn Bridge, NY, my home state (I'm now trapped in Florida); taken by my sister (who escaped and went back to New York without me).

My beautiful and amazing older sister (left) and I (right) at my high school graduation in May 2019, back when I used to be intelligent. She's my person and my best friend, so you'll definitely be hearing more about her.

My dog, Reeses, AKA the love of my life, my child, my whole world. She is the sweetest, cutest, most loving thing on the face of the Earth. (Also, she's a rat terrier and poodle mix, if you were wondering).

Why I Made This Blog

So there I was, jobless, degreeless, and totally lost, thinking to myself, What the hell am I going to do with my life? So I asked myself what I really value and what I love to do. The two things that I came up with that I truly love in life were writing and psychology. Then, I thought to myself, How can I fulfill my dreams of being a mental health advocate without a college degree? It took some time, but eventually, I came up with an idea (making this blog) that combines my two passions, and I'm so excited to see where it goes. I really do love helping others, and hopefully, the content that I produce for this blog will help at least one person through their mental health journey.

The Goal

Like I said before, my goal for this blog is to help people who are in need of support, as well as provide everyone with information about mental health and psychology in general. I want to share this information so that we, as a society, can become more understanding; even if someone isn't struggling/has never struggled with mental health, they can still be understanding of those who have/are struggling.

My intent with this blog is to not only share my story but to provide you with information about all things mental health in hopes to help someone who's also struggling. If I can help just one person, then my goal for creating this blog would be complete. Stick around so that you can learn more about me, mental health, hear personal stories from others, as well as psychology-related content.

Thank you so much for visiting this blog, I hope you stick around! I'll try not to disappoint you, but I can't make any promises. Feel free to contact me at bipolarzilla.contact@gmail.com and visit the forum to ask/answer questions and to discuss psychology and mental health-related content with others. You can also find more mental health content on Instagram and Twitter @Bipolarzilla.
